I’ll be doing a fair bit of travelling in 2016, so I may as well document it! My first stop was Milan, Italy at the beginning of February.
Milan in February was a lot like home, as it rained on and off for the duration of our trip. That didn’t dampen our spirits though (no pun intended), as the wonderful buildings and great food made up for it.
It is known to be one of the fashion capitals of the world, but I was more interested in exploring rather than shopping. An exception was made for the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, one of the worlds oldest shopping centres.
Duomo Di Milano is one of those buildings that literally makes you say “wow!” when you see it, exquisite architecture inside and out, certainly worth the visit, especially the roof-top view of the city.
During our visit, we squeezed in a day trip to Lake Como, where we travelled as far as Bellagio (unfortunately we didn’t spot George Clooney). As we went during the off-season, most restaurants and shops were closed, but it made exploring easier as the area was quiet. The views were out of this world and certainly worth the trip out.
If you’re visiting Milan, I’d recommend buying day passes for the ATM, as it makes travelling around the city a lot easier and cheaper! Also a trip to Luini Panzerotti for a pastry is a must.
Nice post! As a (passionate) photographer living most of the week in Milan, it’s nice to read someone that finally understand that this city is much more than a “capital of fashion and shopping”. There’s so much to see (and photograph) here that every time I bring one of my cameras with me and – believe me or not – it’s a continuous discovery. I hope you enjoyed your stay!
